National Physical Activity Day in Haiti

National Physical Activity Day in Haiti

Monday June 15, 2026, the haitian Ministry of Youth and Sports celebrated the second edition of the National Day of Physical Activity and Sport. Under the slogan Pou lapè, sekirite ak eleksyon : nap mache.

This day was a national event for awareness, mobilization and citizen engagement to promote the benefits of physical activity on public health and strengthen social bonds through sports practice.

Established last year by presidential decree dated May 5, 2025 and published in the Official Journal Le Moniteur, this celebration testifies to the desire of the Haitian State to make sport a lever for human development and social cohesion.

The choice of June 15 this year is no coincidence, in fact, it was on this date, in 1974, that Haiti played its very first match in the FIFA World Cup finals against Italy, thus writing a memorable page in national sporting history.

This year, the celebration of this day takes on an even more symbolic dimension. While our senior men's national team is experiencing its second participation in the FIFA World Cup, the MJSAC also intends to convey a strong message in favor of Peace and patriotic life. "We want to raise awareness among the entire population of the importance of physical activity and sport. Beyond this year's World Cup, today we are marching for Peace..." declared Minister Pythagore Dumas. On this occasion, sporting and physical activities were organized throughout the day throughout the national territory. Walks, jogging, cycling, dancing, jumping, games and various types of competitions enlivened schools, high schools and sports centers thanks to the mobilization of the MJSAC departmental management.
