Agriculture : Opening up of agricultural areas in the North-East of Haiti

Friday June 26, 2026, as part of an official mission from June 24 to 27, 2026, to monitor several rural infrastructure projects, the engineer-agronomist Marcelin Aubourg, Minister of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Rural Development, carried out a second inspection visit to the road rehabilitation site in the municipal section of Sarazin, in the commune of Sainte-Suzanne (department of Northeast).

This monitoring mission made it possible to assess the progress of construction work on 2.4 km of road, carried out within the framework of the Program to Support the Productivity of Agriculture, Fishing and Improvement of Rural Infrastructure (PAPAIR), financed by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and implemented by the United Nations Office for Project Support Services in Haiti (UNOPS) on behalf of the Ministry.

During this visit, the Minister made several technical recommendations to guarantee the proper execution of the work, in an area where access difficulties considerably complicate operations. He particularly insisted on the need to maintain the pace while ensuring strict compliance with quality standards and deadlines. Once completed, this infrastructure will open up agricultural areas, facilitate the movement of residents and improve the delivery of products to markets. It will thus strengthen the fight against food insecurity, for the direct benefit of the communities of Sarazin and surrounding areas.
