During an inspection tour of several construction sites in the Grand Sud region, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) recently welcomed the Minister of Justice, Patrick Pélissier, to the site of the new Haitian National Police (PNH) Departmental Directorate in Berquin, Miragoâne (Nippes Department).

Funded by the Government of Japan, this facility is being built as part of the Support Programme for the Haitian National Police, commonly known as the "Basket Fund". Construction and outfitting work is now nearing completion.

For Minister Pélissier, the new departmental headquarters represents a significant milestone in modernizing and strengthening public security infrastructure in the Nippes department : "As upcoming elections approach, this facility will provide the National Police with the means to deploy more officers across the department’s various communes, thereby helping to create a secure environment conducive to citizens exercising their right to vote."

The construction of this new facility exemplifies the synergy between priorities set by Haitian authorities, funding from the Government of Japan, and technical support from the UNDP. It contributes to ongoing efforts to equip the PNH with infrastructure suited to its responsibilities in Nippes and beyond.
