A delegation from the National Identification Office (ONI) is currently in Canada to assess the functioning of its structures and define the necessary measures to improve services offered to the Haitian community.

Led by Wandy Charles, the ONI's Director of Communications, the delegation also includes the Deputy Technical Director, Jean Richard Princilien, and technician Youdemie Bernard Méralus.

ONI registration services began in Canada on March 1, 2026, with the opening of an office at the Consulate General of Haiti in Montreal. The system was subsequently strengthened in Ottawa to facilitate access for Haitian citizens to the National Unique Identification Number (NINU) and the National Identification Card (CIN).

On Tuesday, September 15, the delegation held a working session at the Embassy of Haiti in Ottawa with the Chargé d'Affaires ad interim, Ms. Françoise Suzan. The discussions focused on the administrative and technical challenges encountered, equipment needs, and ways to increase the service's operational capacity.

One of the main objectives of this mission is to expand the coverage of identification services through the deployment of mobile units. These will allow the service to reach more Haitian nationals, particularly those living far from diplomatic and consular missions where services are currently available.

Through this initiative, the National Identification Office (ONI) aims to bring its services closer to the diaspora, reduce travel-related constraints, and guarantee broader access to the fundamental right to identity.
