Letter of Democratic Caucus in favor of Haiti, to Susan Rice
In a letter to the Permanent Representative of the United States to the UN, Susan Rice, 104 U.S. Democratic caucus members urged the UN to take the responsibility of the cholera epidemic in Haiti and ask to Mrs. Rice to press the UN "to face and possibly eliminate" the epidemic, among others by funding a system of water and sewer in the country.

9 quarries banned from operating

Launch of an Ecological Education project
The Minustah and the NGO "Terre des Jeunes" have launched last week an Ecological Education project for the establishment of a nursery with a capacity of 15,000 seedlings to Lalouère, in the fourth communal section of Saint-Marc. Funded by the UN Mission to the tune of U.S. $ 27.300, 250 students and 100 farmers will be trained in production techniques, of planting and conservation of these seedlings, which will protect the two most important sources of the zone [Négriel and Gilbert], by fixing the soil. In total, 15,000 shrubs including plants anti-erosion, forest and fruit will be produced.
