iciHaiti - Chile : 21% of foreign students admitted to state universities are Haitians
According to the Council of Chilean Rectors Consejo de Rectores de las Universidades Chilenas (CRUCH), which represents State-subsidized member universities and administers the entrance exam at these Universities, the number of foreigners enrolled in these universities for 2019, increased this year by almost 32% to settle at 4.509 students. Of this number, 963 (21%) are of Haitian origin, the number of compatriots who participated in the admission tests is up nearly 200% or 947 candidates this year against 470 the previous year.

According to Tatiana Von Plessing, General Director of admission to the "Universidad Mayor", the number of Haitians can be explained on the one hand by the increase of Haitian migrants in Chile and on the other hand, by the agreement signed at the end of March 2017 between the former President of Chile Michelle Barchelet and President Jovenel Moïse concerning the equivalence and recognition of primary, secondary and secondary education https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-20490-haiti-chile-president-bachelet-addresses-the-issue-of-illegal-haitians-in-her-country.html an essential element that allows Haitians to continue their studies in Chile.
