Friday at the International Tournament of Italy (Rome), the world number 1 of tennis Naomi Osaka (21 years) Japanese of Haitian origin https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-25487-haiti-tennis-naomi-osaka-proud-of-her-haitian-origins.html has declared forfeit a few hours before facing in the quarter-finals the Dutch Kiki Bertens (4th in the world) because of a wound on the right hand.

A disappointment after his victories the day before against Slovak Dominika Cibulkova (33) [6-3, 6-3] and against Mihaela Buzarnescu (29) [6-3, 6-3].

"I got up, and I really could not move my thumb. I tried to train, but I felt that pain. I could not hold the racket. I did not even try to serve, it did not make sense [...] I had no strength in my hand," Naomi told at a press conference adding about the severity of her injury "I have not seen the doctor yet [...] I think I want to stay here for a day or two and see what it is. I have not really planned the rest," hoping that this injury will not jeopardize his participation in the Roland-Garros Tournament.

Note that by reaching the quarter finals in Italy, Naomie Osaka is sure to be seeded at the Tournament of Roland Garros whose qualifications for women start May 21 (May 21 to 24) and that the tournament starts on May 26th.
