iciHaiti - Politic : Accreditation of academic institutions of health is essential

The deadline for accreditation of academic health institutions, including medical schools, is approaching (2023). After this date, if a doctor or other health professional is a graduate of an unaccredited Haitian medical school, he will not be able to continue his medical studies in the USA or Canada, or even work in one of these two countries.
In order to standardize training in health sciences, Marie Greta Roy Clément the Minister of Public Health presented a standards document which notably establishes the skills profile of professionals in health sciences and asked health institutions, to harmonize training in Haiti over the next two years, affirming that "this approach will in the long term allow to have professionals on the job market of standard level [...] we must make sure that all the training institutions that supply the Haitian market in health professionals are competent to ensure adequate care of common pathologies."
Minister Clément stressed that the accreditation process was not only aimed at respecting international regulations and standards but also at restoring public confidence in the health system.
