Sunday, July 18 on the lawn of the Toyota stadium in Frisco (Texas), our Grenadiers after their elimination against Canada [4-1], faced Martinique with as only challenge to avoiding finishing last in Group B and winning the victory [2-1]
In the first period the Grenadiers quickly found a loophole in a Martinican defense which allowed Carnejy Antoine on a pass from Derrick Etienne to open the scoring for Haiti in the 3’ [1-0]
The Martinicans seem more technical but the Haitians more offensive, dominate. At halftime the score is (1-0).
Coming back from the locker room, Martinique tried to recover and managed to reduce the score thanks to a head from Kevin Fortuné on a pass from Stephane Abaul to 53’ [1-1]
Short-lived tie, 8 minutes later on a free kick from Ricardo Adé pierced the Martinican defense in the 61’ [2-1] final score.
Haiti had several opportunities to increase the score but Derrick Etienne, Carnejy Antoine and Ronaldo Damus all failed. Our Grenadiers therefore end this 16th edition of the Gold Cup 2021 in third place in Group B with the result of one victory and two defeats and leave the competition by the back door.
