iciHaiti - Taekwondo : Two medals for Haiti at the 2023 Central American Games
As part of the XXIV Central American and Caribbean Games, our national star taekwondo player Aliyah Shipman (19) qualified for the final after her victory [2-1] against Venezuelan Fernandez Carolina, faced on July 5 in the final at the Juan Pablo Duarte Sports Complex, in the Dominican Republic, the Colombian Gloria Mosquera that she will not manage to dominate, conceding the victory (0-1) to the Colombian. Although disappointed to have missed the gold, Aliyah Shipman won a bronze medal, in (+67 kg).

A victory that puts Haiti on the medal table (the first of these games) alongside the 26 countries (out of 32) that have won at least one medal.

Two other Haitian taekwondoists Ava Soon Lee (-67 kg) qualified for the semi-finals by beating the Venezuelan Castellanos Jaroli (2-0) and Sean Jaylen Laloan in the men's category (-80 kg) remains in the competition and can still win other medals.

Last minute: Ava Soon Lee, despite her extraordinary fight against the Cuban Arlettys Acosta, lost the final (1-2) and obtained a silver medal. This is the 2nd medal for Haiti, ranked 22nd in the medal table

In the medal table (Friday July 7, all competitions combined) Mexico dominated with 126 gold, 93 silver and 87 bronze medals followed by Colombia 76 gold, 77 silver, 57 bronze and Cuba 67 gold 49 silver and 56 bronze. Our Dominican neighbors win a total of 97 medals and rank 6th.
