A two-year white rice marketing project was officially launched in Miserne, in the northeastern part of the Les Cayes plain (South Dept.), thanks to support from the Taiwan International Cooperation and Development Fund (Taiwan ICDF) and Food for the Poor (FFTP). This project has sparked renewed hope and vitality among local communities and the many farmers and local leaders who enthusiastically attended the launch.

Miserne is an economically depressed region where vast rice fields are divided into hundreds of tiny plots. Many smallholder farmers own less than 0.1 hectares of land, and despite two harvests per year, providing for their families remains a significant challenge.

This project expands its scope beyond increasing rice production. It aims to empower a farmers' organization by enabling it to take charge of rice processing and marketing. By providing vocational training, material support, and access to sales channels, the project will enable farmers to become brand owners and entrepreneurs in the white rice sector.
