Environment : Agreement for a historic ecological transition in Haiti

On Monday, June 8, 2026, Lucson Philemond, General Coordinator of the National School Canteen Program (PNCS), and Maxwell Marcelin, representative of FERRE Haiti, a company manufacturing propane (LPG) ovens and stoves, which aims to provide an environmentally friendly cooking alternative to combat deforestation and the intensive production of charcoal, signed an agreement for a historic ecological transition during a ceremony.

On the sidelines of the ceremony, representatives of the two institutions announced that a pilot phase for converting school canteens to clean cooking using LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas) will be implemented in four (4) schools benefiting from the program: École Nationale Calvaire, École Nationale de la Vie et de l’Histoire in Saint-Michel de L’Attalaye, École Nationale de Bord de Mer in Gonaïves, and École Nationale Charlemagne Péralte in Cap-Haïtien.

This initiative marks a significant step toward protecting the environment, eliminating the use of charcoal, and safeguarding the health of cooks in schools.
