iciHaiti - Covid-19 : DR sends 1,200 soldiers and equipment in reinforcement to the border
On the instructions of the Minister of Defense, Rubén Darío Paulino Sem and the Major General Estanislao Gonell Regalado of the Joint Task Force, 1,200 soldiers were sent to strengthen surveillance of the land border with Haiti. A border that was already under the surveillance of more than 11,000 men and high-tech equipment 24/24 (camera, drone, night vision and infrared etc...)

Besides the military, aircrafts https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-29108-haiti-flash-dominicans-send-their-combat-planes-to-monitor-the-border.html and other vehicles will be sent to the border area to participate in surveillance operations.

According to a press release from the Ministry of Defense, this measure is due to the recent increase in the number of cases of Covid-19 in Haiti https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-30896-haiti-covid-19-daily-report-may-29-2020.html and to Haitian nationals who voluntarily left the Dominican Republic because of the virus, and who would be tempted to want to return to reintegrate the Dominican market because of the reactivation of the Dominican productive sector.

With these umpteenth reinforcements, the Dominican military high command guarantees the closure and surveillance of the 391 linear kilometers of land border with Haiti.
