iciHaiti - DR : More than 2,000 Haitians deported end of February
The General Direction of Migration (DGM) informs to have multiplied the migration control operations since the end of February during which 2,479 Haitians were controlled in various sectors of 11 provinces : Azua, Barahona, Duarte (San Francisco de Macorís), Espaillat, La Altagracia (Higüey), La Vega, María Trinidad Sánchez, Montecristi, Santiago de los Caballeros, Puerto Plata and Valverde as well as the municipalities of Santo Domingo East, North and West as well as others in the national district.

After verification using biometric readers and the central database of the DGM, 2,037 Haitians (82.1%) were declared in an irregular or paperless migration situation and taken back to the border posts of Dajabón and Elías Piña in accordance with the provisions of Law 285-04, to be registered there and then deported to Haiti.

The migration teams were made up of inspectors, DGM agents with the support of the military, the Dominican National Police, the Specialized Tourist Security Corps (CESTUR), a representative of the Ministry of the Environment in coordination with the Public Ministry of the Provinces concerned.

The DGM has informed that it will continue its migration prohibition operations to combat any illegal migration on Dominican territory.
