The General Directorate of Migration (DGM) announces that during the first 2 weeks of March, it carried out migration control operations during which 2,059 Haitian nationals were controlled.

The operations were carried out by teams made up of inspectors, agents of the DGM with the support of the military, the Dominican National Police, the tourist police (CESTUR) in coordination with the Public Ministry of the Provinces concerned in: Santiago de los Caballeros (708), Valverde (203), Montecristi (178), Barahona (163), Espaillat (79), La Vega (62), Hermanas Mirabal (56), National District (357) and Santo Domingo East (348).

After verification using, among other things, biometric readers and the central database of the DGM, 1,803 Haitians (83.7%) were declared to be irregular or paperless migrants. In the absence of legal documents to remain on Dominican territory, they were taken back to the border posts of Dajabón and Elías Piña to be registered and deported to Haiti.
