iciHaiti - Contraband : Seizure of nearly 3 million cigarettes from Haiti

Members of the J-2 Intelligence Directorate of the Dominican Ministry of Defense, seized in the municipality of Moca (Province of Espaillat) 272 cases containing 135,000 packets of contraband Capital and Jaisalmer brand cigarettes, from Haiti, worth several million pesos.
The seizure took place following a search of a residence under construction located in the Los Pilones sector of the municipality of Moca, as well as a white truck, plate L-248052, which was in the patio of the house covered with a tarp. The driver of the truck Félix García Guzmán was arrested at the scene.
Defense Minister Lieutenant-General Carlos Luciano Díaz Morfa ordered an investigation into the case to determine when and how contraband cigarettes from Haiti were brought into the country.
The S2, in charge of the interrogation of Guzmán, tries to find out from the defendant whether there was complicity at a border point for the introduction into the country of these contraband goods from Haiti.
Recall that the J-2, the National Army, the Specialized Border Security Corps (Cesfront) and the General Directorate of Customs, dealt this year hard blows against smugglers of goods from Haiti, dismantling several groups Dominican smugglers, Haitians and other nationalities.
